William Morgan came to America in about 1871, before the rest of his family. He settled in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. This was in an area of Southern Ohio with many other Welsh immigrants attracted by job opportunities in the coal mines in that area. William married Martha Mathias, another Welsh immigrant, in August 1873, in Canton, Ohio. They stayed in Ohio at least 15 years after their marriage, but then moved to Brown County Kansas near William's parents and most of his brothers and sisters.
